Well this surely ended up being much better than I thought it would turn out to be. Much better. Admittedly, I burned out on fan-service shows a while back. I simply got tired of seeing the same old setups and clichés going through the motions. Thankfully I went into B Gata H Kei with that sort of thinking thoroughly suppressed in hopes of it being different. So far, in this first episode, it has proven itself wonderfully. Sure it has boobs galore everywhere and the main girl, Yamada, is a sex maniac but the way everything blends together feels natural. I didn’t get a sense that they were trying to force a laugh out of me and neither did I roll my eyes even once (which is something I did a lot in more recent fan-service-up-the-wazoo shows). Oh and I really like the OP and ED themes as well! Normally I don’t like the OP and ED songs of romance comedies like this but they are pretty well done. The OP in particularly is pretty darn catchy.

The 4koma format has always been a favorite of mine and while some may hold it against B Gata H Kei, as far as flow is concerned, I certainly won’t. The jokes are pretty good stuff and the metaphors are hilarious. Yamada’s imagination is one of the things I look forward to now because her fantasies and delusions about getting it on with Kosuda get me slapping my knee each and every time. It’s also pretty funny that even though she wants to lose her virginity so badly she is absolutely clueless and afraid of the male body. Golden stuff right there. It goes without saying that I recommend this show. Anyone looking for genuine laughs and an overall great time should pick it up. Those who are turned off by fan-service (even though it isn’t as rampant as say Queen’s Blade, kiss x sis, or a few others) might not like it though. As for me I’m looking forward to more episodes and hoping they are just as good, if not better, than this introduction episode. Stay tuned for Youko’s report as he plans to blog this fully!
