Kimi ni Todoke ep. 21-22

To me, Chizu was just a yankee-type character on the outside and a bro on the inside. There wasn’t really anything interesting about the stupid, loud mouth persona she had going for her. And I really never saw as a female either to be honest. She doesn’t look like a girl at times and on top of that she’s a tomboy. But this episode made me see her in a different light and that she’s rather feminine when she’s true to her feelings. Tohru was a pretty awesome character overall and I enjoyed seeing the nostalgia moments with him and Chizu. The good-looking nice guy archtype is nothing new, but he brought it out in a way that made it his own. And in particular I thought the explanation behind the Chi nickname was rather clever and made me dawww. I actually tried it out myself and it was amusing how a smile came about on my face. Overall, episode 21 was quite the charming episode and it concluded this arc very nicely. While it was longer than what I wished for, seeing the ending to it was well worth the build up.

This episode reminded me of how good looking a show Kimi ni Todoke is. The Chizu arc I felt wasn’t up to par with the usual standards, but the animation really stood out here in my opinion. Now the whole ordeal with Sawako missing out on the party probably could have been avoided if she was more assertive, but that’s not part of her character and a social life is still a pretty new thing for her so that wasn’t something I raged over like I probably usually would have with somebody else. The dad was partly to blame too jumping to conclusions (ffff he took Kazehaya’s hat), but he made up for it at the end with that cellphone present. Overall it was a great episode with dawww everywhere as expected of a Sawako focused episode, but even more so thanks to the romance at the end of it which is building up quite nicely if I may add. Right now everybody is just waiting for the big moment when those two finally get together. And it looks like Kurumi is making a return appearance as well which I’ve been anticipating too.
