This certainly was quite different from the first episode in narrative and atmosphere. Instead of focusing on Mikado and Masaomi it changed gears to Rio, the girl who was kidnapped. There was a brief summary of what happened to her in the first episode and it picks up where Certy, the headless biker, saves her and gives her a ride to meet Izaya: the real “Nakura”. Man, that guy is bad news and yet such an intriguing villain-like character. What he did to Rio was pretty bad and I’m not sure if he had any influence on her jumping on not. It seems that way though from what Certy asked Izaya which also reveals that it isn’t the first time this sort of thing has happened. I’m guessing we’ll be seeing much more of Izaya and his weird schemes later.

Rio’s story seems to be done with as far as her suicidal tendencies are concerned and she’s now living a more positive life. I doubt that she’s going to be sidelined though because I think she’ll probably be given a chance to use the same phrase that Certy expressed after saving her from falling. Also is it just me or does Certy seem female? Not only that but she seems to living quite ‘normally’ too. Could she be someone who walks around the city just like any other person? I also liked the narration of Sawashiro Miyuki. It seems like she is also Certy’s seiyuu but at the moment she can’t talk. I guess we’ll be seeing that happen eventually!

Izaya brings despair, if you know what I mean.

Seriously though, Izaya is one magnificent bastard. Much more that Hiroshi Kamiya voiced him. Adds to it, I say.
