While I still don’t know how to pronounce Durarara!! other than using DRRR!!, the first episode was pretty awesome. There was so many things similar to Baccano! that my head was spinning around. Heck, I almost freaked when I saw the Baccano! footage being played on a screen in town earlier in the episode. Just like Baccano!, DRRR!! sports a ridiculous large cast. I imagine that everyone will get their share of screentime (some more than others) especially considering that this is going to be twice as long as Baccano!. The main characters introduced so far, Mikado and Masaomi, are pretty interesting so far but it goes without saying that I want to see the others explored as soon as possible. A lot of things stood out for me such as the woman with the scar around her neck, the kidnapped girl, that crazy guy who throws things like a madman, and of course the headless rider. There’s just so many interesting characters in this show!

Another thing of interest is the chatroom. I have an itching feeling that it will play a more important role as the series progresses. For some reason I think of CHAOS;HEAD when I think of the possibilities it holds but could there really be a headless rider talking to people online? Speaking of the rider, I’m curious as to whether that guy who saw the kidnapping has any connections to the him/her. Also I really like how the headless rider seems to be a kind of “normal” sighting in the city and yet still surrounded by enigma.

BRAINS BASE did a really awesome job with the animation but I expected them to do DRRR!! justice. The OP and ED sequences were really enjoyable and the songs were excellent stuff. It’s hard to choose a favorite right now but I’m definitely going to be picking up the singles for both without hesitation.

It goes without saying that I’m already in love with this show and I wouldn’t be surprised if it joined the ranks of Baccano! as an all-time favorite of mine. It definitely has the potential and I’m going into it ready to soak up all the bits of plot and character interaction. I foresee great things for DRRR!! and there’s no question that I’ll be sticking with it to the very end.
